Before choosing a new door, you will need to know the following information to make your selection process easier:

  1. Where is the door located?  (interior, exterior, which room is it for?)
  2. Thickness of door
  3. Size of door
  4. Jamb size (2×4, 2×6 and thickness of drywall and/or outside sheathing used)
  5. Rough opening size (you may have to remove casing to measure the top of the door jamb)
  6. Type of jamb used – finger joint pine? fir?
  7. Does the door require a sill?
  8. Does the door require weather stripping?
  9. Is it a left hand or right hand swing, in swing or out swing? – refer to the diagram below
